Advanced Mobility Device Securement Skills Development Workshop        Facilitated by Michael Noel, National Transit Institute (NTI) and John Cleveland, NTI                                                                                

When:  Tuesday, October 4th—Wednesday, October 5th, 2016                                                   (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. both days)    


Location: Nusenda Federal Credit Union Training Center                                                                 4100 Pan American Fwy. NE, Albuquerque, NM ​​                                                                                                                                                                                       The goal of Advanced Mobility Device Securement Skills Development  Workshop is to present, demonstrate, and practice problem-solving skills for securing powered mobility devices. After successfully completing this two-day workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss federal requirements regarding securement and seat belt use
  • List pre-trip preparation tasks
  • Identify mobility device securement equipment
  • Determine effective strap securement locations on mobility devices
  • Explain the use and placement of seat belts and shoulder belts
  • Recognize how proper body mechanics and exercise can reduce the risk of on-the-job injuries

Maintenance Record Keeping and ADA Complementary Paratransit

Maintenance Record Keeping:

  • Overview of Federal Transit Administration (FTA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and NMDOT maintenance requirements
  • Organizing maintenance files
  • Filing pre- and post-trip inspection forms
  • Scheduling preventive maintenance inspections
  • Documenting maintenance performed, including maintenance performed by contractors
  • Documenting maintenance performed to address issues found during pre- and post-trip inspections
  • Record retention
  • Warranty tracking

ADA Complementary Paratransit

  • Services subject to ADA complementary paratransit requirements
  • Services not subject to ADA complementary paratransit requirements
  • Coordinated paratransit services
  • Determining eligibility
  • Conditional and unconditional eligibility
  • Visitor eligibility
  • Determination letters
  • Service characteristics
  • Reservations and scheduling
  • Monitoring capacity
